Zurg made his first appearance as a video-game boss and sentient action-figure in Toy Story 2 where he was awoken at the toy-store Al's Toy Barn and tried to destroy Buzz Lightyear. He was however mentioned by Buzz and appears in silhouette in a drawing made by Andy. The character of Emperor Zurg was first conceived during development for the film Toy Story although he never appeared in the film.
